What Does a Football Heatmap Show?

A football heatmap shows the areas of the pitch where a player was most active. Warmer colours represent higher activity, while lighter areas represent lower activity.

It can help visualise a player's positioning, movement and general role without relying only on a formation graphic.

  • Where a winger spent most of the match
  • How high a full-back moved up the pitch
  • Whether a midfielder operated centrally or drifted wide
  • Where a striker received most of their involvement
  • Which areas a player covered during a training exercise

Full Pitch vs Half Pitch Heatmap

Choose the pitch view based on what you want the heatmap to explain.

Full Pitch

Full Pitch Football Heatmap

Best for showing a player's movement across the whole field, including defensive, midfield and attacking areas.

Half Pitch

Half Pitch Football Heatmap

Better for analysing activity around one goal, attacking patterns, defensive positioning or a specific training area.

Use a Position Preset or Build Your Own

The generator includes example heat zones for a striker, winger, midfielder and full-back. These are starting points rather than fixed player data.

After applying a preset, you can paint additional areas or erase parts of the heatmap until it matches the movement you want to show.

Position presets are illustrative. They do not represent real tracking data from a specific footballer or match unless you create the heatmap from your own observations or data.
